Pictures of a dog chained up and captured on a truck went crazily viral. The photos were taken by Houston area driver on Sunday near Humble; it shows a dog chained up to a moving truck’s flatbed, with a driving speed of 65 mph.
Since Monica Schmidt used to work for animal’s protection with the Houston Humane Society, she didn’t face any issues speaking out about the photos.
She said, “You get a sense of disbelief that this could even happen,”. “And you think, ‘are you sure this isn’t Photoshopped?’ since it’s just so terrible for anybody to do that.”
The man who captured the pictures didn’t feel like to be recognized however you can see his Facebook post has been shared so much and got comments like, “needs to be in jail!”, “that’s so terrible! I can only imagine how terrified that poor baby was!” and “Oh my god that makes me sick to my stomach.”
Still the photo has produced plenty of furies, as told to the District Attorney’s office, this kind of animal transport is lawful in Texas. It is a crime when the animal is injured; something Schmidt says is highly likely.
“We really need stricter laws in Texas to be able to protect those animals that can’t protect themselves. Every dog owner should be saddened that as a society that happens… here in Houston on our highways.”
Schmidt advises that anybody who is distress by the animal’s treatment contact their elected official and encourage them to push for stricter animal rights laws.
